Frequently Asked Questions

Dedication. Expertise. Passion.

How long does it take to get an appointment at the clinic?

We endeavour to offer you an appointment as soon as possible, and we have a number of consultants who may be able to see you, however none of them work in the clinic every day of the week.  We are not an urgent service, and therefore it is normal for our consultants to be booked at several weeks in advance. We hold a small number of appointments for referrals triaged as urgent by our consultants and run a cancellation list.

Will I have to pay for the services on the day I am seen?

Payment on the day is preferred and appreciated. Late payment of accounts may incur additional administrative and recovery costs.

Please let us know if you would like an estimate to check pre-approval with your insurance company. If your insurance company is covering the cost, we understand that you may wish to send the account to them for payment.

For information about the cost of services, please contact the clinic.

How long will my appointment take?

Please arrive at least 10 minutes earlier than your appointment start time and allow 20 to 30 minutes for your consultation.

We do our best to run to time, but occasionally our clinics do run late. We will do our best to notify you if this happens. Please allow more time than is required for your appointment to allow for this.

Vestibular and initial Speech and Language Therapist consultations will take an hour.

Can I bring a support person to my consultation appointment?

Yes, we encourage a support person. Often a lot of information is given to you at the consultation and having a second person there to listen can be very valuable.

Do you deal directly with insurance companies?

Ear Nose and Throat Hawke's Bay is an affiliated provider with Southern Cross Healthcare for consultations, and as such if you are insured with Southern Cross, the clinic staff will manage the approvals process for you.

If you go on to have surgery and insured with Southern Cross, Kaweka Hospital will arrange the approvals process for you (for those procedures on the affiliated provider list).

We can also submit consultation claims for NIB. For all other insurance companies, we provide you with estimate of costs for any services provided and it is your responsibility to obtain prior approval. Most insurance companies will pay monies directly to the clinic if the account is provided to them.

The clinic holds a clinical services contract with ACC and will manage the approval and payment process for you. We do not charge a surcharge for ACC treatment.

Please note that there may be a surcharge that you will be required to pay for certain ACC procedures and also if you have an excess or a partial cover policy with your insurance company.

If I need surgery, how long will I need to wait and how much will it cost me?

Surgical timeframe availability will be dependent on the type of surgery you need, how long the procedure will take, whether it is being performed at Kaweka Hospital or in our clinic rooms, and if ACC approval is required.

For all procedures carried out at Kaweka Hospital, you will receive two estimates; one from us and one from Kaweka Hospital (Kaweka Hospital will arrange the approvals process for you (for those procedures on the affiliated provider list). The clinic team will advise of the process this while discussing the arrangements for your surgery.

We can also provide an estimate for any procedures that can be carried out in our clinic rooms.
